INTERMEDIATE LABOUR MARKET
Pilot
Project
This
ILM's key aims are:
- Provide
a bridge back to work for people with
history of substance misuse
- Combine
paid work with training and personal
development
- Protect
existing jobs by creating additional
economic activity
- Fill
job gaps in a sector with shortage of
qualified candidates
The
Process:
In
2007 DACA recruited five people to
full-time, salaried posts for a one-year
Health
and Social Care ILM
programme.
Following
a six-week induction they started the
first of two 15-week work
placements
and day release at Clydebank College
studying SVQ Level
II
in Health and Social Care.
Outcomes:
- Five
trainees complete induction programme
and certificated
confidence-building
course
- All
five start work placement with
voluntary sector addiction
services
- Design
and deliver power point presentation to
the public
- Write
and produce project
newsletter
- Three
trainees secure secondary placements in
statutory sector
- Two
trainees also secure paid sessional
work in voluntary sector
The
Future:
Unemployment
in West Dunbartonshire is higher than both
Scottish and UK
average.West
Dunbartonshire Council has applied to the
European Social Fund
to
tackle this problem.
If
the bid is successful DACA will receive
two-years funding for 16 people
to
participate in an ILM training project
similar to our pilot programme.
