INTERMEDIATE LABOUR MARKET

Pilot Project

This ILM's key aims are:

  • Provide a bridge back to work for people with history of substance misuse
  • Combine paid work with training and personal development
  • Protect existing jobs by creating additional economic activity
  • Fill job gaps in a sector with shortage of qualified candidates

The Process:

In 2007 DACA recruited five people to full-time, salaried posts for a one-year
Health and Social Care ILM programme.

Following a six-week induction they started the first of two 15-week work
placements and day release at Clydebank College studying SVQ Level
II in Health and Social Care.

Outcomes:

  • Five trainees complete induction programme and certificated
    confidence-building course
  • All five start work placement with voluntary sector addiction services
  • Design and deliver power point presentation to the public
  • Write and produce project newsletter
  • Three trainees secure secondary placements in statutory sector
  • Two trainees also secure paid sessional work in voluntary sector

The Future:

Unemployment in West Dunbartonshire is higher than both Scottish and UK
average.West Dunbartonshire Council has applied to the European Social Fund
to tackle this problem.

If the bid is successful DACA will receive two-years funding for 16 people
to participate in an ILM training project similar to our pilot programme.
