HOW DOES COUNSELLING HELP?
Counselling encourages people to talk about themselves, their feelings, their wider
circumstances and their substance misuse.
At our bases in Dumbarton and Clydebank our staff and volunteers provide one-to-one
counselling for both our clients with an alcohol-related problem and their partners
and family members.
The aims of counselling are:
- Help people to define their goals
- Provide an insight into their problems
- Develop problem solving skills
- Support
A CLIENT'S VIEW
“It took me a while to pluck up the courage to telephone DACA and make an appointment
as I was so nervous. I used to phone and hang up until one day I decided to speak. With
the help and support I received from my counsellor my drinking has reduced and I can
cope better.”
