BACKGROUND
The Dumbarton Area Council on Alcohol was established in 1976. It is a
registered charity and company limited by guarantee managed by an elected
Executive Committee.

Our principal activity is providing a counselling/advisory service to people with
alcohol-related problems, their families and friends. The Council also acts as a local
resource centre for individuals, organisations and companies.

We annually select local volunteers to participate
in Alcohol Focus Scotland's validated National Training Scheme. Our counsellors
can seek accreditation by Alcohol Focus Scotland after a two-year probationary period.

CURRENT STAFF
The organisation currently has the following people involved:

• 9 full-time staff
• 3 part-time counsellors
• 1 part-time family worker
• 20 voluntary counsellors
• 1 part-time practice supervisor
• 7 sessional practice supervisors
• 3 voluntary receptionists
